Pilkington Italia S.p.A. is a company of the NSG Group, a world leader in the production of glass and glass systems in three main business areas: Automotive, Construction and Creative Technologies, with production facilities in 30 countries on four continents and commercial operations in approximately 105 countries.
In Italy, the Building division is located in Porto Marghera (Venice), where clear and extra-clear float glass and laminated safety glass are produced and where the entire range of Pilkington glass is marketed.
- 1924 Foundation of the Italian “Società Italiana Vetri e Cristalli”, the most important glass industry in Italy, with sheet glass production.
- 1927 Agnelli (grandfather of Gianni Agnelli) joins the Società Italiana Vetri e Cristalli and Società Italiana Coke.
- 1950 The Vetrocoke s.p.a. (New name of the Società Italiana Coke) joins the Group Fiat.
- 1970 Vetrocoke goes to EGAM by joining the State Participation Companies (AGIP Carbone / ENI).
- 1980 La Veneziana Vetro S.p.A. becomes part of the EFIM Group.
- 1986 The Veneziana Vetro S.p.A. is acquired by SIV Società Italiana Vetro company of S.Salvo (Chieti).
- 1987 In January, the construction of a modern plant for float glass production begins. On November the 5th, heating of the production plant and on December the 19th, the first glass is produced.
- 1993 The SIV Group is acquired by Pilkington-Techint joint venture.
- 1995 SIV S.p.A. company becomes 100% Pilkington’s property.
- 1996 Starting of the new laminated glass line.
- 1996 Achievement of the Quality Management System certification according to UNI EN ISO 9002.
- 1999 Achievement of the Environmental Management System certification according to UNI EN ISO 14001 and introduction of the Safe Work Project for the Safety Management System.
- 2002 Float line Cold repair. Integration of the three management systems Quality, Environment, Safety.
- 2004 EMAS Accreditation and Integration into the CIIMS System.
- 2006 June the 16th, the Japanese company Nippon Sheet Glass (NSG) acquires the Pilkington Group, maintaining “Pilkington” a leading brand for the new business. The association of two technology leaders has created a leading global and innovative supplier in the industry sector.
- 2013 January. As a result of the market crisis, the melting furnace is switched off. The sale of all the Group’s products and the production of laminated glass is maintained. During this period, all staff took advantage of the social security cushions.
- 2017 January. NSG Group decides to restart Porto Marghera float production facility. Start of works for refurbishing the refractory structure. Hiring 60 people. The start ignition of the furnace is expected in October.
